Was Brittany in class?
Former classmate messages Maggie - and where is Tulsa Police Department??
“I could've sworn she was in class Tuesday evening but not Thursday evening, although I could be wrong. And it was the following Tuesday the teacher had said she would no longer be in class.” - Former classmate of Brittany at TCC further information that could disprove the TPD timeline of the murder (along with the letter).
If you have been following Brittany’s case you will know there is reason to disregard the current police timeline. Based on new evidence it is possible Brittany was not killed on September 29th (Listen to Episode Two here for details on this)
Many of Brittany’s old friends and acquaintances reached out to Maggie over the last new months since discovering the purchased/postmarked letter. Including former classmates of Brittany’s at Tulsa Community College.
Maggie gave me permission to share the following message sent to her by that classmate via FB messenger:
“….. I was in a class with her, all males including the teacher. Now I know something like this is a stretch. But back then I assumed, this class is definitely going to be the first to get checked out. All 20-something-year-old males in there - I just figured her classmates would have been questioned. The teacher made a statement Brittany would no longer be in class. At the time I thought he meant because she had dropped the class and thought weird he was telling us this because students drop classes all the time, big deal. Then later I realized. I actually dropped the class because it was the most uncomfortable class I had attended, all guys, northeast campus, and it let out in the evening around 7ish or 8ish (can't remember) It was a Tuesday/Thursday evening class and I could've sworn she was in class Tuesday evening but not Thursday evening, although I could be wrong. And it was the following Tuesday the teacher had said she would no longer be in class. a couple of the guys made reference to her skirts, she always wore the cutest clothes. We had these double tables 2 students per table on day 1 and couple guys "Oh you can sit with me" to her when she walked in and I said no sit with me because we were the only girls. She was the very last student to walk in on day 1, I'm looking around like oh my gosh how are all guys in here than she came in, I was like okay good. I think about it and just wondered if they ever questioned any of them in her evening classes at northeast campus.
Maggie passed this information along to the Tulsa Police Department. They have done nothing with this information.
Also - the TPD has done nothing with the letter found by Brittany’s father. They have not called her dad, they have not to any of our knowledge tracked down the postal markings to find the location of purchase (we did that you can read about that here).
I find this person’s memory of Brittany being in class compelling. Not just because of what she sent over in the above message, but because of something mentioned to Maggie not mentioned.
The classmate said at the time of the murder in 2004 they thought the date of death had to be wrong (supposedly Sept. 28 - the class was the 29th). Because they could have sworn Brittany was in class that night. But, the classmate figured the police knew what they were talking about and it might have been another shared class.
The classmate’s gut was triggered when she found out Brittany had been murdered.
It’s also significant as Brittany was only one of two girls in the class. It’s not like there were 20 girls in the class - there were two.
Will continue to update!
Also…
I will get into the Tulsa Police Department in future posts. For now, this is important to note: there is a person coming forward with information. Is it the key to solving the case? Maybe or maybe it comes to nothing. But for the TPD to not at least call the person who sent the tip is infuriatingly lazy or profoundly inept. Neither are acceptable excuses.
And will have a post this week about concerns over the Tulsa crime lab back then and a very problematic M.E. who attended the scene and did Brittany’s autopsy.
