Brittany Phillips was murdered in 2004 just days before what would have been her 19th birthday. When I first heard her mother, Maggie speak about Brittany I was drawn to the case.
It's been 19 years and the case is cold but I truly believe it doesn't need to be. When I started talking to Maggie it was a mom’s quest to find her daughter’s killer. But this February new evidence came to light that knocked Maggie off her feet. Then came new tips, and questions about the timeline, concerns about the Tulsa Police Department, and disturbing new information about Brittany’s autopsy.
I am an investigative reporter and my work has been featured in The New York Times, The Nation, Al Jazeera, Foreign Policy, The Guardian, and more. I’ve been doing this work for nearly 20 years and before that worked in photojournalism.
Working with Maggie and a group of former and current detectives, medical professionals, Brittany’s friends, and family I’ve put together this website to serve as a clearinghouse for information. It is also a place for respectful conversation and interaction with people interested in digging in to help out.
Get Involved:
Brittany’s murder is solvable. There is no shortage of suspects (though I will not be naming them here) or evidence and there is DNA.
And now there is new evidence that alters the timeline. This means back to square one.
And this is how you all help. Fresh eyes.
I can’t tell you how many experts and law enforcement professionals I have spoken to about this case who tell me fresh eyes on cold cases are key. And that starts with reading the facts of the case and building from there.
